Studying the function of sigma-1 and sigma-2 receptors, and how these proteins can be used to diagnose and treat cancers leads into general oncology research which now includes aspirin analogues and 5-aminolevulinic acid. The misuse by the scientific community of certain techniques and practises also excites him as he tries to discourage those who follow "tried and tested" paths. Working in the Middle East, Steve is also involved with repurposing cheap, safe drugs for the treatment of type 2 diabetes. He currently sits on the Clinical Research Ethics sub-committee for private health institutions, National Health Regulatory Authority, Bahrain. |
